The use of Low Impact Development (LID) design is increasing significantly in the Mid-Atlantic region. LID seeks to manage stormwater primarily by maintaining or restoring natural hydrologic functions in order to protect natural resources. More and more often, developers in Virginia and Maryland are required to include LID features in their projects. With numerous potential complications, from expensive retrofits to dead biofilters (or rain gardens), LID designs generally have a bad reputation with developers. But Angler Environmental’s team members have over a decade of experience constructing LID projects that really work. Our LID projects have ranged in size and scope from small, urban projects of one or two biofilters per in-fill project site to very large facilities. We have the knowledge to correctly install complex designs, including those that involve level spreaders, under-drain systems, observation wells, and cleanouts. We collaborate extensively with other designers to optimize their plans, ensuring lasting integrity and minimal maintenance costs. We also renovate old LID facilities that have been installed incorrectly by contractors without proper experience. During our years of working on LID projects, we’ve come to believe in their benefits because we’ve seen that they can work well if they are built well. Our LID-related capabilities include:
